Anxiety Stress Disorder


In our day-to-day lives, many of us feel anxiety and stress. We may feel anxious about a presentation at work, or stressed about finances. But sometimes, anxiety and stress become excessive. It becomes difficult to manage the stresses of daily life; and everyday stresses might fill an individual with stress. In these instances, one may find that he or she is experience an anxiety disorder that is linked to stress.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)

Stress is often associated with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, which is a type of anxiety disorder that is characterized by chronic anxiety and worry. A range of physical symptoms, which often include irritability, sweating, muscle aches or tension, headaches, and fatigue, often accompany this type of disorder. Some people also experience nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea. When there is no discernable cause for anxiety, or if the anxiety is debilitating, it is wise to seek treatment.

Other types of Anxiety Disorders

Other types of anxiety disorders, which can be induced by stress, include panic disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and social anxiety disorder.

Stress Reducers

In many cases, anxiety can be reduced by the individual working to reduce stress. Stress can be reduced by exercising more - aim for 30-60 minutes per day of cardio activity. Eating a variety of healthy foods, including lots of fruits and vegetables, can also reduce stress. Learning various breathing techniques, practicing yoga and meditation, and spending time outdoors can all help to reduce stress. Don't be afraid to "say no" to favors and tasks, and prioritize work and personal projects. Getting a good nights sleep is an important aspect of working towards a stress-free life.

Treatments for Anxiety Disorders

Anxiety disorders brought on by stress can be treated in a variety of ways. Treatments can include medications, talk-therapy, and other psychological assessments. Your team of healthcare professionals will be able to look at the different parts of your life that may be contributing to your high levels of stress and anxiety. While anxiety and stress disorders can be caused by external influences, such as work or finances, they can also be genetic. Finding out and understanding the various factors that are influencing your stress and anxiety levels is an important part of anxiety and stress management and care.

Extended Stress and Anxiety

Experiencing stress and anxiety for an extended period of time can lead to other illnesses, which is why it is so important to identify it early on in life. Depression, heart disease, cancer, stroke, and a suppressed immune system have all been linked to stress and anxiety disorders. Part of the reason that it is important to recognize when one is feeling stressed or anxious is to ensure that there are no other health concerns at hand. If you are able to identify the factors that lead to stress and anxiety, you will be better equipped to find relief.
